Spring
April – May
The best-kept secret of the Lapland year: April is still full snow, long days, and sun that actually warms you.
- Light returns fast
By April the sun is up 15 hours a day and by May it barely sets. The snow is still deep, so you ski in sunshine.
- Crust snow
At the beginning of April the snow freezes hard overnight and carries your weight in the morning — you can ski or walk anywhere, not only on trails. Locals call this the best skiing of the year.
- Quiet
The Christmas crowds are gone and prices drop, but conditions are at their best. This is the value season.
- Ice-out
The Äkäsjoki opens in May and the first grayling come.
